Clear all formatting

With Word’s Clear All Formatting command, you can remove text formatting like font, size, and color to return text to its default style. It’s an easy way to start with a clean slate and apply the formatting of your choice.

Watch the video below to learn more about using the Clear All Formatting command.

Steps

  1. Open the Word document you want to edit. Then select the text that you want to remove the formatting from.
  2. Click on the Home tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  3. Look for the Clear All Formatting button (in the Font section) and click on it.
  4. The formatting will be removed from the selected text, and it will be returned to its default style.
  5. If you want to apply new formatting, select the text again. Apply the desired formatting using the formatting tools in the ribbon.
